Planting and tending.
Growing and perfecting.
Share joy in gardening with your little ones this summer…
The school holidays are now in full swing, but as the long summer days begin to merge into one, you may feel yourself running short of ideas on how to entertain the children.
It seems only fitting that during National Allotment Week, we should share with you some ideas to get the whole family outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
Allotments are great for our local communities. They help people to live healthier lifestyles, develop friendships and encourage everyone from experienced green fingers to budding beginners to, ‘grow their own’.
You too can channel the spirit of the allotment in your very own back garden. It’s the perfect opportunity to get the children involved too, and educate them about where their food comes from.
It may even make them more likely to eat and try new things. Plus, growing produce at home offers a chance to watch the process from ground to fork, with the added excitement at meal times when homegrown ingredients make it to the dinner table!
Feeling inspired? Then gather the children and start your own gardening plot! If you don’t have a garden, it’s time to get creative. You can still grow an array of intriguing produce in hanging baskets, a window sill or balcony.
We’d recommend choosing fruit and veg that are low maintenance and that have a short grow time. Lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries and herbs are just a handful of foods that are easy to grow.
